When he was on the People newsdesk Graham phoned me at the Sutton Herald to offer me my first shift on Fleet Street. I think it was about 1875. After that he rang virtually every week and it was always a thrill to look forward to Saturdays with the big national paper boys. I later learned that when the news editor David Farr was going through the casuals he wanted on press day Graham never failed to pitch in my name. It was down to him I got my first big career break. After I landed a staff job, Ballsy became a friend with whom I enjoyed some memorable times. Great guy, excellent company, as laconic as he was funny. Although, he never did make a cricketer of me! RIP Graham, forever young and dynamic in my memories. Kevin O'Sullivan
